BYD’s Shark 6 plug-in hybrid pick-up (BYD Shark DMO) has earned a five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP.
Marketed as the Shark DMO in Europe and the Shark 6 in several other markets, including Nepal, the pick-up scored strongly in occupant protection and safety assistance.
The Shark scored 82% for Adult Occupant Protection, 86% for Child Occupant Protection, 74% for Vulnerable Road User Protection and 87% for Safety Assist. Euro NCAP highlighted its crash protection, autonomous emergency braking and lane-departure support.
The pick-up uses BYD’s Super Hybrid DMO powertrain, pairing a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with two electric motors. The front motor produces 231PS and 310Nm, while the rear delivers 204PS and 340Nm. Combined output stands at 436PS and 650Nm, enabling 0–62mph acceleration in 5.7 seconds.
A 32.2kWh Blade Battery provides a claimed electric-only range of up to 90km, while the combined range with a full battery and fuel tank is rated at 675 km.
The five-seat pick-up features a 15.6-inch infotainment screen, a digital instrument cluster, a head-up display, heated and ventilated front seats, wireless smartphone connectivity and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality.
The five-star rating marks another safety achievement for BYD, which has earned similar ratings for several models in its European line-up. The BYD Shark 6 is also available in Nepal, bringing the brand’s plug-in hybrid pick-up offering to the local market.
